WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest Men's Soccer Program is proud to announce the team's 2008 signing class, which features four National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-American selections.
The class is composed of Kyle Adams, Chris Estridge, Sean Haglund, Nick Millington, Luke Norman, Jesse Sokolow, and Danny Wenzel.
"The Wake Forest soccer staff is excited to have the opportunity to work with these seven talented student-athletes as they accept the challenges and opportunities that Wake Forest will present them academically and athletically," Head Coach Jay Vidovich said.
Kyle Adams (Fayetteville, GA/Whitewater H.S.) is a six-foot-two defender and a member of AFC Lightning Club team coached by Steve Muccillo and former Demon Deacon stand-out Robin Dixon. "Kyle is a solid defender who has great overall athleticism," Vidovich said. "Losing defenders Julian Valentin and Patrick Phelan, it was important to add quality defenders to our player pool; Kyle is certainly one of these."
Chris Estridge (Indianapolis, Ind./Brownsburg H.S.) has been a member of USYSA Region II team and was a participant at adidas ESP this past summer where he received all-star honors. Estridge was recently named an NSCAA High School All-American. "Chris is a versatile player. He's strong, athletic and has a good engine. Having played in literally every position, Chris can play both ends of the field and should fit in well with our style of play," Vidovich said.
Sean Haglund (Raleigh, NC/North Raleigh Christian Academy) is a two-time NSCAA All-American and two-time adidas ESP participant. "Sean has won a national championship with his CASL team," Vidovich said. "Another good North Carolina player, Sean comes from up the road in Raleigh and the Capital Area Soccer Club (CASL). He has a good frame at 6'2 and has a great left-footed service and shot that compares to former Wake Forest stand-out soccer player Steve Curfman."
Nick Millington (Raleigh, NC/ U.S. Soccer Residency), an NSCAA All-American, was a member of U.S. U-17 residency program and is with the U.S. U-20 National Team. "I love soccer players and Nick is certainly a player. Nick is quick, smart and ambitious. We are very excited to have another CASL/North Carolina product at Wake Forest," Vidovich said.
Luke Norman (Rochester, MI/ Stony Creek H.S.) is a two-time NSCAA All-American. The midfielder/forward was coached by Dave Hicklin of the Vardar Soccer Club and is a two-time adidas Elite Soccer Program participant and All-Star. "Luke is 6-2 and has great feet and quickness. He loves to go at players and has an attacking flare that you don't see too often," Vidovich said.
Jesse Sokolow (Reston, VA/ Bishop O'Connell H.S.) Sokolow was named to the 2007 Washington Post All-Met and All-District Teams, and is Bishop O'Connell High School's Most Valuable Player. "Jesse is a hard-working defender with good pace and some versatility to play either as a center back or on the flank," Vidovich said. "He has a great frame for a defensive player, runs well and is a competitor, all things that we hope will add up to success here at Wake Forest."
Danny Wenzel (Federal Way, WA/U.S. Soccer Residency) captained the U.S. U-17 team during the 2007 World Youth Championships in South Korea, and is also a two-time NSCAA All-American with recent experience on the U.S. U-20 National Team. "Danny has a lot of experiences and I love his competitive nature," Vidovich said. "We look for Danny to help fill the holes left by graduated seniors Pat Phelan and Julian Valentin."
