Three Wake Forest football players participated in last weekend's NFL Combine in Indianapolis. Center Steve Justice, defensive end Jeremy Thompson and wide receiver Kenny Moore all took part in the drills that were held at the RCA Dome.
The three Deacons were among the 300 former college players who auditioned in front of over 600 NFL scouts, coaches and general managers.
Justice scored well in the 3-cone drill, finishing second among all offensive linemen with a time of 7.4 seconds. Thompson was third among defensive linemen in 6.97.
Justice also finished among the top 10 offensive linemen in the 20-yard shuttle.
Thompson was fifth in the 20-yard shuttle, ninth in the 40-yard dash with a 4.75 clocking, seventh in the vertical jump (32.0"), and eighth in the broad jump (9'9"). He also was fifth in the 20-yard shuttle in 4.23 seconds.
According to a recent story in the Dayton Daily News, Moore is considered a perfect draft pick for the Cleveland Browns. Wide receivers Braylon Edwards and Joshua Cribbs, along with tight end Kellen Winslow, earned trips to the Pro Bowl following the 2007 season. But the Daily News states that Moore could be the Browns' answer to fill the role of slot receiver.
"The 5-foot-11 200-pound receiver may be one of the most intriguing prospects entering this year?s draft due to his outstanding ability and versatility," wrote Carlos Holmes. "Moore set the ACC record for receptions in a season in 2007 by catching 98 passes. A record previously held by St. Louis Rams future Hall of Fame WR Torry Holt, who caught 88 passes in a single-season. What makes Moore's record-breaking accomplishment more special is that he achieved the goal playing in an offense not known for its passing game. "Moore finished the '07 season with 1,011 yards receiving and five touchdowns. He became only the third Wake player in history to surpass the 1,000-yard mark in receiving yardage. Moore tacked on an additional 316 yards rushing and three touchdowns for good measure."
