WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest freshman forward James Johnson has been named third team All-Atlantic Coast Conference, as announced by the Associated Press on Monday. Johnson and guard Jeff Teague were also named to the ACC All-Freshman Team.

Johnson becomes just the third Demon Deacon freshman to be named All-ACC, joining Rodney Rogers (1991, 2nd team) and Chris Paul (2004, 3rd team). Both Rogers and Paul were named ACC Rookie of the Year.

Johnson, a native of Cheyenne, Wyo., was one of three freshmen named All-ACC in 2007-08. Duke's Kyle Singler was named to the third team, while NC State's J.J. Hickson was named honorable mention.

Johnson was a unanimous selection to the ACC All-Freshman Team. Teague joined his classmate on the team, marking the first time since the award began in 1992-93 that Wake Forest has placed multiple players on the All-Freshman Team. Paul was the last Deacon to be named to the team, earning the honor in 2004.

Hickson, Singler and Virginia Tech's Jeff Allen rounded out the five-man 2007-08 ACC All-Freshman Team. Clemson's Terrence Oglesby was named honorable mention All-Freshman.

Johnson leads the Deacons in both scoring (14.8 ppg) and rebounding (8.1 rpg). He is trying to become the first freshman to lead Wake Forest in both categories since Rogers in 1991. Johnson would be the first rookie to lead Wake in scoring since Robert O'Kelley in 1998 and the first freshman to lead the Deacs in rebounding since Niki Arinze in 1998.

Teague is second on the team in scoring with 13.8 points per game. The Indianapolis native leads all ACC freshmen in conference games only scoring with 16.4 ppg. Teague is a three-time ACC Rookie of the Week honoree, and he was also named the National Freshman of the Week by Rivals.com on Feb. 20.

At least one Demon Deacon has earned All-ACC honors 11 consecutive seasons and in 18 out of the last 19 seasons.
