Kenny Moore was selected by the Detroit Lions with the first pick in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft on Sunday, April 27. Moore was the 136th player chosen in the draft.
Moore, a 6-0, 204-pounder from Charlotte, NC (Butler), set the ACC record for receptions in a season in 2007. Moore caught 98 passes for 1,011 yards and became just the third Wake player in history to surpass the 1,000-yard mark in season receiving yardage. Moore also set a school record and finished second in the ACC with 1,854 all-purpose yards. He was named first team All-ACC and was the MVP of the Meineke Car Care Bowl.
Moore is the first wide receiver from Wake Forest selected since Ricky Proehl was a third round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 1990. Moore is the first Deacon picked by Detroit since center Larry Tearry was a fifth round pick in 1978.
Moore's selection give Wake Forest a total of 138 all-time NFL draft picks.
