WINSTON-SALEM - Wake Forest rising senior Dustin Groves carded an even par-70 in the final round of the 30th Cardinal Amateur to finish in a three-way tie for second. The tournament was played at the Cardinal Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., on Aug. 8-10.
Groves rebounded after an opening round two-over 72. His 1-under 69 in the second round moved him up the leaderboard and his final round 70 was the fourth-best round of the day. He finished tied for second at 1-over par with Reed Darsie and Nicolas Geyger.
Alabama-Birmingham's rising-senior Zach Sucher became the second player to win back-to-back Cardinal Amateur titles after firing rounds of 67-68 on the weekend to win by three.
Groves, a Keswick, Virginia native has had a solid summer, as he also made the match play portion of the North/South Amateur at Pinehurst back in July.
