WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - For the second time in three days, the Wake Forest men's soccer team has been tabbed as the preseason No. 1 team in the country. The Demon Deacons are ranked No. 1 in CollegeSoccerNews.com's Preseason Top 30 Poll.
The defending national champions were also No. 1 in the preseason poll released Tuesday by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and adidas.
Wake Forest returns nine starters from last year's team that won the first national title in program history. Returning for the Deacs are All-Americans Sam Cronin and Cody Arnoux and ACC and Soccer America Freshman of the Year Corben Bone.
Connecticut, Maryland, Indiana and Santa Clara round out the top five in the CollegeSoccerNews.com poll. Boston College, ranked sixth, is the third ACC team to crack the top 10.
Wake Forest will host two exhibition matches before opening the regular season. The Deacons will welcome Wofford to Spry Stadium on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the first exhibition of the season, before hosting Furman on Saturday, August 23, also at 7 p.m. The regular season opener is Friday, August 29, against Florida International in Chapel Hill, N.C.
