WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest football team held its last two-a-day practice on Wednesday, completing the morning and afternoon sessions in shells at the Doc Martin Football Complex.
"This is kind of it for the old guys. All the seniors have tapped out on two-a-days right now," Wake Forest head coach Jim Grobe said.
"In most cases you'd be really excited about having two-a-days over, but I think we're close enough to game time now that the guys are more focused on trying to get better. We've had good practices so far. Hopefully this last week can be a really good week for us."
Grobe spent part of the morning reviewing film from the final scrimmage on Tuesday night and the team will continue to study the footage in meetings later this evening and through the rest of the week.
"I think our fullbacks feel like they could have played a little bit better. I thought overall our defense started really sluggish. I thought that yesterday and the film proved it. We started out a little bit slow and then we picked up and had some good energy on defense," Grobe said.
"We're not ready to play a football game yet; we've got a lot of things to do. But I feel better about where we are right now."
Quarterback Riley Skinner, who sat out Tuesday's scrimmage with a tight hamstring, participated in both practices today.
"We did some work on it today. It loosened up a little bit, I was able to practice in both practices. I think it can only get better from here, there's a lot of improvement from yesterday to today," Skinner said.
After a lifting session tomorrow morning the Demon Deacons will practice in pads at 1:45 p.m.
