Wake Forest Picked Fifth in ACC Preseason Poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's soccer team was picked to finish fifth in the 2008 ACC women's soccer preseason poll, as voted on by the league's 11 head coaches. North Carolina was picked to win the league, receiving seven first place votes and 117 points overall.
The Demon Deacons received one first place vote and 76 points overall. The Deacs return eight starters and 17 letterwinners from a squad that finished with a 13-7-3 overall record. Last year, Wake was picked to finish sixth in the league and finished the season in a tie for second with a 6-2-2 record.
Florida State and Virginia finished second and third in the voting, respectively. The Seminoles received two first place votes and 102 points overall while the Cavaliers had one first place vote and 98 points overall. This marks the third straight year where UNC, Florida State and Virginia have been predicted to finish as the top three teams in the league.
Boston College placed just ahead of Wake Forest in the voting, finishing in fourth place. Completing the preseason poll in order of projected finish are Duke (68 points), Miami (55 points), Maryland and Virginia Tech (37 points), Clemson (28 points) and NC State (21 points).
Wake Forest opens up its exhibition schedule on Sunday, August 17, when it hosts Appalachian State at 1 p.m. The Deacs face Vanderbilt in an exhibition game on Tuesday, August 19, at 1 p.m., before opening the regular season at home on August 22 against Utah.
