WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Junior defender Kaley Fountain was named to Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week after scoring her first goal of the season and assisting on another goal in Wake Forest's 3-0 victory over UNC Greensboro.
With the Deacons leading 1-0, Fountain found the back of the net for the first time in 2008, scoring in the 48th minute. A corner kick from Jill Hutchinson found Fountain on the left side of the field. Fountain fired a shot from 19 yards out that deflected off a UNC Greensboro player and went into the left side of the net to give the Deacs a 2-0 advantage.
Fountain assisted on the last goal of the night for Wake Forest, playing a cross to Bianca D'Agostino, who scored her third goal of the season.
Wake Forest will be without the services of Fountain for its next game on Thursday against Maryland as the Austin, Texas, native will rejoin the United States U-20 National Team in preparation for the FIFA U-20 World Cup to be held in Chile in December. Fountain will return in time for Sunday's game against No. 14 Boston College.
The group of 21 players will train in Sunrise, Fla., for the remainder of the week. Fountain is one of five defenders that will be in camp. The squad will have one final training camp before heading to Chile for the World Cup in December.
Wake Forest opens Atlantic Coast Conference play on Thursday, hosting Maryland at 7:00 p.m. The game will be webcasted on ACC Select.
