Final: No. 2/3 Wake Forest 78, No. 10/9 Clemson 68
Team Records and Series Notes:
- Wake Forest improves to 15-0 overall and 2-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while Clemson drops to 16-0 overall and 2-0 in league play.
- The Demon Deacons have posted their best start to a season in school history. The best start previously had been a 15-0 record to begin the 1926-27 campaign.
- Wake Forest moves to 96-52 all-time against Clemson. The Deacons have won three of the last four and snapped a two-game losing streak at Littlejohn Coliseum with the win.
- Head coach Dino Gaudio moved to 33-13 in his second year at the helm of the Deacs. Gaudio is 101-137 in his eighth season overall as a head coach.
- Today's sellout crowd at Littlejohn Coliseum was the fourth-straight capacity crowd that the Deacons have played in front of and the fifth sellout crowd for a Wake game this season. (at East Carolina, at BYU, vs. North Carolina, at Boston College).
- Wake Forest returns home to host Virginia Tech on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The game will be carried live on ESPN2 (television) and on the Wake Forest ISP Sports Network (radio).
Wake Forest Team Notes:
- Key Runs: Wake Forest opened the second half with an 11-2 run over the first two minutes and 46 seconds to take a 43-29 lead. The Deacons increased their lead to 14, 58-44, at the 9:42 mark before Clemson went on a 16-3 run to pull within one at 61-60. The Deacons responded by scoring eight straight points to take a 69-61 advantage with 2:34 remaining.
- Key Stat: The Demon Deacons held the Tigers to a season-low shooting percentage of 33.8. Clemson's previous low was a 42.9 percent mark vs. NC State. Wake also held Clemson to a 21.7 mark from three-point range.
- Wake Forest led 32-27 at the half. It was the Deacons' lowest first-half point total since scoring 30 against Baylor on Nov. 30. The first-half point total was Wake's third-lowest of the season.
- The Deacs held the Tigers to a 25.7 percent (9-for-35) field goal percentage in the first half.
- The Deacons failed to hit the 80-point mark for the first time in seven games and just the fourth time this season.
- Wake Forest has now made a three pointer in 536 consecutive games.
Wake Forest Individual Notes:
- Sophomore guard Jeff Teague scored 24 points on the night, marking the 20th straight game he has finished in double figures. It was his eighth 20+ point performance of the season and the 14th of his career. Teague has scored at least 20 points in each of his last four games.
- Sophomore forward James Johnson finished with 19 points. It was his ninth game this season in double figures and the fourth time in his last five games. Defensively, Johnson recorded three steals and three blocks.
- Freshman forward Al-Farouq Aminu posted his sixth double-double of the season and his first since the Radford game. Aminu scored 12 points to finish in double figures for the 12th time this season and the sixth time in his last seven games. He also had 10 boards, marking the sixth time this season he has recorded double figures in rebounds.
- Junior guard L.D. Williams scored 11 points to finish in double figures for the eighth time this season.
- Junior center Chas McFarland pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds, marking the second time this season he has finished with double-digit boards.
- Teague led the Deacons with five assists on the day.
