With the Loss...
- Wake Forest falls to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the ACC
- Wake Forest has lost its fifth straight road game since beating Florida State 12-3 in Tallahassee on Sept. 20, 2008.
- Jim Grobe's record at Wake Forest is 58-47 and his career record is 90-80-1
- Grobe's record in ACC games is 30-38 and 12-22 in ACC road games
- Clemson leads the series 57-17-1.
- Wake Forest has lost its fifth straight game in Death Valley. Under Grobe, Wake Forest is 0-4 in games played at Clemson.
- Riley Skinner falls to 30-14 as Wake Forest's starting quarterback.
- The Deacons are 11-33 when scoring less than 24 points under Jim Grobe.
Noting Riley Skinner
- Senior QB Riley Skinner completed 11 of 24 passes for 82 yards and two interceptions. Skinner's 82 passing yards was his lowest output since throwing for 57 yards on eight attempts at Miami last season.
- Skinner had his career-best seven-game streak of at least one passing touchdown snapped.
- In four career games against Clemson, Skinner went 72-for-111 for 607 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions.
- Skinner now has 8,378 career passing yards, extending his school record.
- Skinner made his third career reception and his second of the season in the second quarter. Skinner caught a 15-yard pass from WR Marshall Williams. Skinner also had a catch vs. Stanford this season. His first-career catch came against Clemson in 2006 when he was on the receiving end of a TD from WR Nate Morton.
- Wake Forest is 9-11 all-time when Skinner throws at least one interception.
Newman Provides Lone Score
- PK Jimmy Newman went 1-for-2 on field goal attempts to provide Wake Forest's lone score on the day.
- Newman missed his first attempt from 51 yards but made his second from 28 yards out in the second quarter.
- Newman is now 5-for-8 on field goals this season.
Givens & Williams Have Streaks Snapped
- WRs Chris Givens and Marshall Williams both came in to today having caught a touchdown pass in each of their last four games. Both had their TD streaks snapped.
- Givens caught one pass for 16 yards. He entered the game on the heels of back-to-back 100-yard receiving performances.
- Williams, the ACC's leading receiver entering the day, was held to just two catches for 13 yards.
- Clemson increased its lead in the all-time series with Wake Forest, 57-17-1. The Tigers have won three of the last four meetings with the Deacons.
- Under Jim Grobe, Wake is just 3-6 against Clemson which includes an 0-4 mark in Death Valley.
- Wake is 7-29 all-time at Memorial Stadium, having lost five straight at the venue.
Deacons on Third Down
- Wake Forest entered the game having converted 50.5 percent of its third down attempts this season. The Deacons failed to live up to that number at Clemson, finishing 4-for-17 on third downs for a 23.5 percent conversion rate.
- In the first half, Wake was just 1-for-7 on third downs as Clemson jumped out to a 31-3 halftime advantage.
- Clemson finished 3-for-10 on third down attempts.
First Half Notes
- Wake Forest trailed by 28 at the half, 31-3. It was the Deacons' biggest halftime deficit since trailing 42-14 at Florida State on Sept. 29, 2001.
- The 31 points were the most allowed by Wake in the first half since Miami scored 34 on Nov. 12, 2005. UM led 34-17 and went on to win 47-17.
- The Tigers out-gained the Deacons 271-99 in the first half. Wake Forest managed just 36 yards rushing and 63 yards passing in the half.
- Clemson sacked QB Riley Skinner three times in the first half.
- Wake Forest controlled the time of possession, holding the ball for over 18 minutes.
- Clemson ran 13 first-down plays in the first half for 206 yards, an average of 15.8 yards per play.
- WR Marshall Williams, who came in leading the ACC in receptions, was held without a catch in the first half.
Miscellaneous Notes
- Wake Forest's game captains were QB Riley Skinner and LB Dominique Midgett.
- Wake lost the coin toss for the fifth straight game. The Deacons kicked off to start the game for the first time in their last five contests.
- RB Josh Adams now has 1,646 career rushing yards which puts him in 14th place in school history. Adams is now 18 yards shy of passing Ken Garrett (1970-72) for 13th place.
- Today marked the first time in Wake Forest's last six games that the Deacons have failed to out-gain their opponent. Clemson had 382 yards of total offense compared to 178 for Wake.
- Today was also the first time this season that Wake Forest did not gain more first downs or at least equal the total of an opponent. The Deacons had 13 first downs compared to 16 for the Tigers.
- The 38-3 loss stands as the second-worst in the Jim Grobe Era (since 2001). The worst loss under Grobe was a 52-7 setback at Miami in 2004.
