Six Wake Forest Players Earn All-ACC Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Wake Forest had six players earn All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors and also claimed three of the four league individual awards, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Junior midfielder Corben Bone was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year, while junior defender Ike Opara earned ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors for the second straight year. Head coach Jay Vidovich received ACC Coach of the Year for the second straight year and fifth time in his career.
Joining Bone and Opara on the All-ACC First Team were seniors Austin da Luz and Zack Schilawski. Anthony Arena and Andy Lubahn were named to the league's All-Freshmen team.
Vidovich received the league's Coach of the Year honor for the second straight year. The 16th-year head coach led the Demon Deacons, who were picked fourth in the preseason, to a 13-3-2 overall record and a 5-2-1 mark in ACC play. Wake Forest claimed a share of the ACC regular season title, marking the second straight year and the fifth time overall the program has won the regular season crown.
A native of Plano, Texas, Bone was named to the All-ACC First Team for the second straight year. The 2009 ACC Offensive Player of the Year, Bone has scored two goals and added nine assists on the season. A 2009 M.A.C. Hermann Trophy candidate, Bone ranks fourth in the ACC with nine assists and ranks 19th nationally in assists per game. He ranks second in career assists in school history with 34.
One of the top central defenders in college soccer, Opara earned ACC Defensive Player of the Year accolades for the second straight season. The Hermann Trophy nominee has been a part of four shutouts during the 2009 season. On the offensive end, Opara has added three goals and an assist.
Da Luz earned All-ACC honors for the first time in his career. The midfielder from Winston-Salem leads the ACC with 11 assists on the season and ranks fourth nationally in assists per game. He has also scored four goals to rank second on the team with 19 points. For his career, da Luz holds the school record for assists with 35.
Schilawski was named to the All-ACC First Team for the first time in his career. A native of Cary, N.C., Schilawski leads the ACC in goals (11), points (26) and shots (63). A 2009 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award Finalist, Schilawski scored six goals in conference matches and had at least one goal in five of the final six regular season matches. Schilawski ranks third in school history for both career points (91) and goals (36).
A starter for all 18 games of his rookie season, Arena was a key member of the Demon Deacon defense. The Kenmore, Wash., native contributed on seven shutouts during his freshman season. He also added a pair of goals during the season, both of which were game winners.
Lubahn was one of the top offensive rookies in the league in 2009, ranking second on the team and fifth in the ACC with seven goals. Of his seven goals, five of them came in conference matches. The seven scores ranks in a tie for fourth for goals by a freshman in school history.
Wake Forest opens play at the 2009 ACC Tournament on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. against either Clemson or Virginia Tech.
