WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's basketball team continues play with Sunshine State opponents on Wednesday as it hosts the University of South Florida at 5 p.m.
Wake Forest is 1-0 after topping Jacksonville 64-47 in the home opener on November 13. Freshman Sandra Garcia led both teams with 19 points and earned the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week award for her performance.
USF is 1-1 after dropping a season-opening overtime game to Florida A&M. The Bulls recovered to defeat St. Peter's 88-72 on Monday, led by Jessica Dawson, KeNeisha Saunders and Janae Stokes who all added 20 or more points.
The USF Bulls won the 2009 Women's National Invitation Tournament, but lost three starters from the championship squad. The Bulls have an eye-catching eight newcomers this season, including three junior college transfers.
Wake Forest Associate Head Coach Natasha Adair is a USF graduate. After playing her freshman and sophomore years at Pensacola Junior College, Adair lettered with the Bulls from 1992-1994 and captained the team during her senior season (1993-94).
Wake Forest will prepare for its first road contest following the USF game. On Saturday, November 21, the Demon Deacons are headed to Miami of Ohio to face the Redhawks at 2 p.m.
