GREENSBORO, N.C. - Wake Forest freshman forward Andy Lubahn was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Soccer Player of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal against Duke last Friday.
Lubahn shared the conference's weekly award with North Carolina's Billy Schuler, who scored three goals and an assist in a pair of victories for the Tar Heels last week.
The win against Duke gave the Demon Deacons a share of the ACC regular season championship with North Carolina. The Deacs have now won two straight regular season titles and five in program history.
A native of Erie, Pa., Lubahn gave Wake Forest a lead it would not relinquish by scoring in the 14th minute against the Blue Devils. The goal was the seventh of his rookie season and his second game winner.
Of his seven goals, Lubahn has scored five in conference matches, which ranks second in the league, trailing only teammate Zack Schilawski, who has scored six goals in ACC play. Lubahn now ranks in a tie for fourth for goals by a freshman in school history with seven.
Wake Forest returns to action on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. when it faces either Virginia Tech or Clemson in the quarterfinals of the 2009 ACC Tournament at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. For more information on the tournament, click here.
