FINAL: Wake Forest 90, Elon 50
Team Records and Series Notes:
- Wake Forest now has won 24 consecutive contests against Elon, dating back to the 1921-22 season.
- The Demon Deacons lead the overall series 36-6.
- This was the first meeting between the teams since Nov. 17, 2006, which resulted in a 73-48 Wake Forest victory.
Wake Forest Team Notes:
- Key Run: Coming out of the half up 13, Wake Forest went on a 41-12 run to widen the gap to 42 points with 5:42 left in the game.
- Key Stat: Wake Forest scored its most points of the season with 90, while holding Elon to 50, the lowest by an opponent all season.
- Wake Forest had five players score in double figures for the first time since Dec. 22, 2008 at East Carolina.
- The Deacons led by as many as 44 points, eclipsing the previous season-high Wake Forest lead by eight.
- The Deacons outshot the Phoenix 52.8 percent (38-of-72) to 31 percent (18-of-58) in the game.
- For the first-time ever, Wake Forest's starting five were: freshman C.J. Harris, senior Chas McFarland, senior Ishmael Smith, senior L.D. Williams and sophomore Tony Woods.
- At the half, Wake Forest led 41-28. The biggest lead of the first half was a 16-point margin favoring Wake Forest with 5:40 remaining until the break.
- The 40-point margin of victory marked the largest win for Wake Forest this season. The last time the Deacons won by 40 or more points was at East Carolina on Dec. 22, 2008.
- En route to scoring 19 fast-break points, Wake Forest held Elon to only two fast-break points in the game.
- Today's attendance totaled 9,457.
- Up next, Wake Forest will travel to UNC Wilmington on Wednesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. This is the first time the Deacons have played at UNCW's Trask Coliseum in 21 years.
Wake Forest Individual Notes:
- Sophomore Al-Farouq Aminu came off the bench to total his fifth double-double of the season and 15th of his career. He combined for 11 points and 10 rebounds.
- Junior Gary Clark added 12 points on a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor. He recorded career highs with four steals and 23 minutes of play.
- Smith totaled 12 points, adding three steals and three assists. Now, he is only four assists behind Randolph Childress (1991-95) for fifth place on the school's career assists list.
- Williams also was perfect shooting (5-of-5), netting 10 points and grabbing five boards.
- Harris netted 12 points to go with three steals and three assists.
- Freshman Ari Stewart scored 16 points - one off his career-high against Gonzaga on Dec. 5 - and added four rebounds. He came off the bench in the first half to score nine points in his first five and a half minutes of action.
