WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The postseason accolades continue to roll in for members of the Wake Forest men's soccer team as Corben Bone, Ike Opara and Zack Schilawski were named All-Americans by College Soccer News.
Bone and Opara were each on the first team, while Schilawski was named to the second team.
The recognition comes just a few days after each player was named an All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Bone, a junior midfielder from Plano, Texas, scored three goals and added 13 assists during 2009. The M.A.C. Hermann Trophy finalist added four game-winning assists on the season, along with a game-winning goal. Bone finished the season ranked second in the ACC in assists and 13th nationally in assists per game. Bone, the 2009 ACC Offensive Player of the Year, ranks second in school history with 38 career assists and has 68 points, ranking ninth in the Wake Forest record books.
A junior defender from Durham, N.C., Opara was named the ACC's Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season. A member of the U.S. U-20 Men's National Team at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, Opara contributed to six Wake Forest shutouts in 2009 and 20 clean sheets over the last two seasons. Opara also added three goals and two assists on the offensive end of the field.
Schilawski, a senior forward from Cary, N.C., led the ACC with 14 goals and 35 points. A 2009 All-ACC first team selection, Schilawski led the Demon Deacons with five game-winning goals in 2009 and also contributed seven assists. Schilawski finished the season ranked 19th nationally in points per game. For his career, he played in a school record 99 career games and also finished third in school history in career goals (40) and points (100).
Bone Named to College Cup All-Tournament Team: After scoring a goal in Wake Forest's semifinal overtime loss to Virginia, Corben Bone was named to the NCAA College Cup All-Tournament Team.
The honor marks the second straight year that Bone was named to the All-Tournament Team at the College Cup.
With Wake Forest trailing 1-0, Bone tied the game at one with a goal in the 70th minute. The Cavaliers claimed a 2-1 win with a goal in the third minute of overtime.
During the NCAA Tournament, Bone scored a goal and added three assists. The junior scored at least one point in each of Wake's four NCAA Tournament contests.
Lubahn Selected for U-20 Training Camp: Freshman forward Andy Lubahn was one of 36 players selected by head coach Thomas Rongen for the U.S. U-20 Men's National Team training camp.
The camp begins on December 16 and continues until December 23 in Chula Vista, Calif. The camp is the first that is made up exclusively of players born in 1991 or later, making them age-eligible for the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
Lubahn, a native of Erie, Pa., scored 10 goals for Wake Forest during his rookie season, ranking second on the team in goals scored. The 10 goals also tied the Wake Forest record for goals scored by a freshman. A 2009 All-ACC Freshman Team selection, Lubahn scored three game-winning goals on the season. Lubahn was also named to the ACC All-Tournament Team after scoring two goals in Wake's quarterfinal win against Clemson.
Wake Forest Named No. 1 Men's Soccer Program in Country by STACK Media: The Wake Forest men's soccer program was named as the No. 1 men's soccer program in the country by STACK Media's third annual "Elite 50" Individual Team Rankings.
STACK Media is the leading producer and distributor of sports performance, instruction and lifestyle content for high school athletes.
STACK Media uses five main indicators of excellence to determine the sport-specific rankings. The indicators include the school's ranking by U.S. News & World Report and a program's Academic Progress Rate (APR). Also considered is a team's end of the season national ranking and win-loss record. One final indicator is the 'STACK Factor', or the strength of the overall athletic community in terms of the level of athletic support and ability through all 21 varsity sports covered.
Wake Forest has advanced to the College Cup each of the last four seasons, marking just the ninth different time in NCAA history that a team has accomplished that feat. Over the last four seasons, the Demon Deacons have a record of 78-11-10, including the program's first national championship in 2007 and three of the last four ACC regular season titles.
