James Johnson had a career night for the Chicago Bulls at Utah last Thursday in his only action this past week. In the Bulls' win, he racked up career highs in points (10), field goals attempted (6), free throws made (4), free throws attempted (5), defensive rebounds (3), total rebounds (5) and minutes played (18).
For the Spurs, Tim Duncan has been a key contributor during the team's five-game winning streak, which dates back to Nov. 21.
He has averaged 21 points over the Spurs' last three games. On Sunday, he totaled 22 points with six rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Last Wednesday against Golden State, Duncan recorded 20 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. He had 21 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks on Friday. Currently, Duncan ranks fifth in the league averaging two blocks a game and sixth overall with 10.8 rebounds a contest.
Darius Songaila continues to contribute off the bench for the New Orleans Hornets this season. Songaila had a strong game last night against the Lakers. He netted a season-high 12 points on 6-of-8 from the floor, adding three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Last Wednesday, Songaila had seven rebounds against Milwaukee, with a season-high six defensive boards.
Jeff Teague has been quiet this week for the Atlanta Hawks, totaling six points in two contests.
Josh Howard remained sidelined with his ankle injury. Chris Paul also did not play this week but has begun testing out his left ankle.
Wake Forest boasts six former student-athletes now on NBA rosters but an even greater number of former Wake Forest standouts are playing worldwide.
