CORAL GABLES, Fla. - In her first career start, Wake Forest freshman Secily Ray netted 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help the Demon Deacons take a 78-69 win over Miami on Sunday. Wake Forest improved to 14-5 and 2-4 in the Atlantic Coast Conference and Miami is now 11-10 and 1-6.

Ray was the game's high scorer and rebounder. The Hurricanes were also led by a freshman in scoring, guard Shenise Johnson, who added 22. LaToya Drake had a team-high seven rebounds for Miami.

WFU senior co-captain Corinne Groves recorded her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

The Demon Deacons logged 50 rebounds, matching the season-high set on November 24 against Winston-Salem State. Wake Forest out-rebounded the Canes by 17 to break its six-game streak of losing the rebound battle.

Wake Forest held a 23 point lead with 6:45 to play in the second half, but Miami out-scored the Deacons 23-9 in the final minutes to give Wake a single-digit advantage at the end of the game.

Wake Forest will next host Georgia Tech on Tuesday, February 3 for Pack the House Night. General admission tickets are only $2.
