Deacs Sign Seven to National Letters of Intent

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest head women's soccer coach Tony da Luz announced the signing of seven student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. The class will be eligible beginning in the fall of 2009.
"The 2009 freshman class is full of pure soccer players," da Luz said. "They bring a wide range of skills and athletic abilities. What stands out is versatility and technique. They all understand the game and play with intelligence, competitive mentality and composure. This class will make our roster extremely deep and competitive. My staff and I will have some very tough weekly team selection decisions this fall."
The Deacons added Ally Berry, Lindsey Holman-Kelley, Jackie Logue, Kristen Meier, Marisa Park, Shareen Sutherland and Alisha Woodson. Seven different states are represented in the class of 2009.
Wake Forest finished the 2008 season with a 13-8-0 record and hosted the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Wake advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before dropping a 1-0 decision to James Madison.
Ally Berry - M - 5-5 - Cincinnati, Ohio - St. Ursula Academy
Helped St. Ursula Academy to the 2007 state championship, scoring the game-tying goal ... Named All-Conference second team in 2007 ... Missed senior season due to injury and acted as a team manager ... Member of Ohio Elite Soccer Academy since its inception in 2002 ... Club team was a six-time Ohio South State Cup Champions and was the USYS Region II Champions in 2005 ... Team was the US Club Regional Champions four times and was the Super Y League National Champions in 2007 ... Selected to the SYL North American Finals Team and attended Super Y National Camp in 2006 and 2007 ... Member of the Ohio South ODP State team in 2007 ... Also played as a freshman and sophomore before committing to soccer fulltime ... Member of the National Honor Society ... Born on December 3, 1990 in Cincinnati ... Daughter of K. Lindsey Holman-Kelley - M/F - 5-2 - San Diego, Calif. - The Bishop's School
Has scored 55 goals and 40 assists in her career to date for The Bishop's School ... Named San Diego County All-CIF First Team in 2008 ... Earned Coastal South League Player of the Year in 2008 ... Member of California South ODP Team from 2004-2007 ... ODP Team was a two-time regional champion (2006 & 2007) and was a national championship finalist in 2007 ... High School team won the California State Championship (Southern Region) in 2008 ... Club team, San Diego Surf, won the state championship in 2005 ... Born on February 15, 1991 ... Daughter of Jim Kelley and Terry Holman ... Mother played soccer at USIU.
Da Luz on Holman-Kelley: "Lindsey is an incredibly technical player who can attack very effectively in 1v1 situations. She has a deadly shot with both feet and is very dangerous on free kicks. Wake Forest fans will enjoy watching Lindsey play."
Jackie Logue - D - 5-8 - Mount Laurel, N.J. - Bishop Eustace Preparatory
Served as team captain during senior season and led the team in goals with 10 as a defender ... Three-time first-team all-conference honoree ... Named South Jersey Defender of the Year and first team All-South Jersey by the Courier Post ... Twice named to the All-State team by the Newark Star Ledger ... Named Team MVP following the 2007 and 2008 seasons ... Four year member of the New Jersey state team in the Olympic Development Program ... Team won the ODP National Championship in 2007 ... Recognized as a outstanding player in ODP National Championship by Top Drawer Soccer ... Has traveled to Italy and Russia with the Region 1 ODP Team ... Member of the National Honor Society ... Kristen Meier - M/D - 5-6 - Alpharetta, Ga. - Marist HS
Four-year letterwinner in soccer at Marist HS ... High school team won the 2008 Georgia 4A Soccer State Championship ... Named 2008 Georgia Soccer Coaches Association 4A Player of the Year ... Club team, Tophat Soccer Club, won state championships in 2006 and 2007 and were runner-up in 2008 ... Team was the 2008 Region III East Premier League champions, finishing the season undefeated ... Also earned four letters in basketball and one in softball ... Currently serving as team captain for the basketball team during the 2008-09 season ... Da Luz on Meier: "Kristen is a very versatile soccer player. She covers a lot of ground and reads the game very well. I can see her making an impact for us in the midfield or possibly as a defender. She has a high soccer IQ."
Marisa Park - M - 5-3 - Great Falls, Va. - Langley HS
Earned All-District honors during her sophomore and junior seasons and also received team Most Valuable Player accolades following her junior season ... Finished the 2007 season tied for second on the team in goals ... Club team, RFC United, was a State Cup finalist in 2007 ... Also played basketball for one season ... Scholar Athlete from 2006-2008 ... Member of the National Honor Society, the Japanese Honor Society and the History Honor Society ... Born on August 25, 1991 in Alexandria, Va. ... Daughter of Randy and Mavee Park.
Da Luz on Park: "Marisa can play central midfield or wide midfield. Marisa has great skill and rarely makes a bad decision with the ball. She makes the game look easy and will have a calming influence on our midfield."
Shareen Sutherland - F/M - 5-9 - Orlando, Fla. - Edgewater HS
Scored 39 goals and added 11 assists during her senior season ... Finished high school career with 86 goals and 24 assists ... High school team won the Metro Conference championship from 2006-08 ... Named to NSCAA/adidas High School Girls All-Region III team ... Earned All-Metro Conference First-Team honors from 2006-08 ... All-Metro Conference Player of the Year nominee from 2006-08 ...
