CARY, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's soccer team continued its spring schedule on Saturday night, falling to the Carolina RailHawks of the United Soccer League First Division 1-0 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. The RailHawks scored the only goal of the game with four minutes remaining.
The game was played evenly throughout most of the match. The Wake Forest back line played well for most of the game, keeping the contest scoreless until the late minutes. Nick Millington played on the back line and was able to get forward on several opportunities to create scoring chances. Also playing well in the game were Corben Bone, Nick Courtney and Justin Lichtfuss. Akira Fitzgerald had a good game in goal for the Demon Deacons.
Former Wake Forest player Amir Lowery played the entire 90 minutes for the RailHawks. Lowery played at Wake Forest from 2001-04 and twice earned All-ACC honors.
The Demon Deacons were able to generate several scoring chances in the game. Freshman Ben Newnam had a shot from 12 yards out in front of the goal, but it sailed high. Cody Arnoux and Danny Wenzel each had shots that went just wide of the goal.
Wake Forest opens its home spring schedule on Friday, March 27, against the University of Denver, which is coached by former Wake Forest assistant coach Bobby Muuss. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. and admission to the game is free.
