Wake Forest Announces 2009 Spring Schedule

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Three home games against teams from the Southeastern Conference highlight the 2009 Wake Forest women's soccer spring schedule, released Wednesday by head coach Tony da Luz.
The Deacs will play three games at Spry Stadium during the spring schedule and will also stay at home for the ACC Women's Soccer Spring Tournament, which will be played at the BB&T Soccer Fields in Winston-Salem.
The spring schedule opens on Friday, March 21, when Wake Forest plays host to Georgia at 1 p.m. The Bulldogs finished the 2008 season with an 11-11-1 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament, falling to James Madison in the first round.
Wake Forest will play a pair of SEC foes on Saturday, March 28. The Deacs will meet Florida at 10 a.m. and face South Carolina at 1 p.m. Florida finished 2008 with a 19-4-1 record, including a perfect 11-0 mark in SEC play. Florida finished the season ranked 10th in the final National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll and reached the NCAA Tournament round of 16.
South Carolina went 11-7-4 last season and went to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year. The Gamecocks lost only one senior from their 2008 team and had a total of 14 freshmen on last year's squad.
The BB&T Soccer Fields in Winston-Salem will play host to the ACC Women's Soccer Spring Tournament on Saturday, April 4. Along with the Demon Deacons, North Carolina, Duke, NC State and Virginia Tech will compete in the round-robin tournament.
The spring schedule concludes on Saturday, April 18, at the UNC Wilmington 7v7 Tournament.
Wake Forest finished the 2008 season with a 13-8-0 record and played host to the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament. The Deacs defeated Morehead State in the first round, before falling to James Madison in the second round of the tournament.
