WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest's Jeff Teague and James Johnson were named All-Atlantic Coast Conference, Al-Farouq Aminu was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team and L.D. Williams was selected to the ACC All-Defensive Team, as announced by the Associated Press on Monday afternoon.
Teague, a sophomore guard, was named second team All-ACC. In a voting panel of 76 media members, Teague received 185 points. He finished just three points behind Miami's Jack McClinton for the final spot on the All-ACC first team.
Teague leads the Demon Deacons and ranks fourth in the ACC with 19.4 points per game. The Indianapolis native also ranks fourth in the league in steals (1.9 spg) and seventh in assists (3.6 apg). He tied for the conference lead with three 30-point performances and holds the second-longest current streak for double-figure scoring at 32 games.
Johnson, a sophomore forward, was named third team All-ACC for the second straight season. He received 100 points, which made Johnson the highest vote-getter on the third team and just 16 points behind Maryland's Greivis Vasquez on the second team.
Johnson led the Deacons in rebounding for the second consecutive year, averaging 8.4 boards per game to rank fourth in the ACC. The Cheyenne, Wyo., native also ranked third in the league in field goal percentage (.541), seventh in blocked shots (1.5 bpg) and 16th in scoring (14.6 ppg). Johnson led the ACC in field goal percentage in ACC games only (.558) and posted nine double-doubles on the year.
Aminu was a unanimous selection for the ACC All-Freshman Team. A 6-9 forward out of Norcross, Ga., Aminu was one of two freshmen, along with Virginia's Sylven Landesberg, to be a unanimous selection to the team. Each received the maximum 76 votes.
Aminu posted 10 double-doubles on the year, including five in conference action. He led all freshmen and ranked sixth in the ACC with 8.3 rebounds per game. Aminu was also second among all league rookies with 13.0 points per contest.
Williams was one of five players chosen to the ACC All-Defensive Team. The Deacons' top lockdown defender, Williams received 26 votes. The junior guard out of Yadkinville, N.C., led one of the stingiest defenses in the country.
The Deacons' field goal percentage defense of .394 is the team's second-lowest mark in the past 53 season and currently ranks 19th in the country. Wake also leads the ACC and ranks 12th nationally in three-point field goal percentage defense (.300).
At least one Demon Deacon has earned All-ACC honors 12 consecutive seasons and in 19 out of the last 20 seasons.
The AP will release the ACC Player, Rookie and Coach of the Year awards on Tuesday afternoon.
