1948. Mr. Bill France Sr. founded North American Stock Car Auto Racing, Swiss inventor George De Mestral took his dog for a walk and invented Velcro and the Wake Forest football team went to the Dixie Bowl. In terms of prices, a new house was around $7700, a gallon of gas was 16 cents and the Wake Forest football game program would cost you two quarters.
Here are some photos, taken during the 1948 season at the old Groves Stadium in Wake Forest, N.C. Be sure to check out the Deacon in the lift trailed by the cheerleading squad in the wagon. Special thanks to Justin Richardson for the photos.
