WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest field hockey assistant coach Daan Polders was promoted to associate head coach as he enters his fifth season working with the Demon Deacons.
"I am so honored to announce that Daan Polders has been named associate head coach," head coach Jennifer Averill said.
"He is more than deserving of the title. Daan has not only shown his expertise in coaching during his time at Wake Forest, but also added incredible value to the athletic department and community. Wake Forest field hockey continues to be a premiere program because of his assets."
After several years of work as a youth coach in the US Field Hockey Association, Polders signed with the Wake Forest coaching staff in 2005 to help lead the Deacons to their first undefeated regular season.
Polders' passion for the game developed during his childhood in The Netherlands, where field hockey is one of the nation's most popular sports. He played in the Dutch Major League and for the Dutch National Army Team, gaining invaluable experience by competing against some of the most talented athletes in the world.
"The whole dynamic of Wake Forest field hockey is very special," Polders said. "The coaches, the players, the atmosphere and the commitment that everyone shows for the program makes it a great place to work for."
The Demon Deacons will begin practice on August 13 in preparation for their first match of the season at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in Iowa on August 29.
