Women's Soccer Picked Sixth in ACC Preseason Poll

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's soccer team was picked to finish sixth in the Atlantic Coast Conference women's soccer preseason poll, as voted on by the league's 11 head coaches.
The Demon Deacons earned a total of 66 points. Wake Forest finished the 2008 season in sixth place in the conference, compiling a 13-8-0 overall record and a 5-5-0 mark in conference play. Wake returns seven starters from the 2008 team, which also advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Defending national champion North Carolina was the unanimous choice to repeat as conference champions, receiving all 11 first place votes and 121 total points. Florida State was picked second with 109 total points, while Boston College was selected third with 96 points.
Virginia received fourth place with a total of 88 points, while Duke earned fifth place honors with 76 points. Wake was slotted sixth with 66 points.
Completing the preseason poll in order of projected finish are Virginia Tech (51 points), Maryland (42 points), Miami (41 points), Clemson (19 points) and NC State (17 points).
The Demon Deacons take the field for the first time in 2009 on Saturday at 7 p.m., when it hosts Campbell. The regular season lid lifter is slated for Friday, August 21, at Spry Stadium against High Point. Kickoff against the Panthers is scheduled for 7 p.m.
