Wake Forest's senior nose tackle, Boo Robinson, has been named to the preseason watch list for three prestigious college football awards. Robinson is a preseason candidate for the Bronko Nagurski Award, the Outland Trophy and the Rotary Lombardi Award.
Robinson, a 6-2, 295-pound fifth-year senior from Monroe, La. (Richwood HS), was an honorable mention All-ACC selection in 2008 when he led the Demon Deacons with five sacks. Robinson is tied for 10th in school history with 11.5 career sacks.
The Rotary Lombardi Award is presented annually by the Houston Rotary Club to the nation's top college football lineman, either on offense or defense. The Nagurski Award, presented by the Charlotte Touchdown Club and the Football Writers Association of America, honors the nation's top defensive player. The Outland Trophy is the third-oldest award in major college football. The award is sponsored by the Greater Omaha Sports Committee.
Wake Forest, coming off an 8-5 season last year and a victory over Navy in the EagleBank Bowl, will open the 2009 season at home against Baylor on Sept. 5. Wake Forest has been to bowl games in each of the last three seasons and compiled a record of 28-12 during that time.
Robinson is one of just four ACC players listed on the Outland Trophy Watch List. He is joined by Virginia Tech's Sergio Render, Duke's Vince Oghobaase and Matt Tennant of Boston College.
