Wake Forest head coach Jim Grobe put the Demon Deacons through a brisk two-hour practice on Friday night at the Doc Martin Football Practice Complex on the Wake Forest campus.

With camp now exactly two weeks old, Grobe and his staff are working to keep the squad focused.

"We're kind of in that mode where we're getting tired of going against each other right now," said Grobe. "But I told the guys we still have two weeks left to go. It's not like we play tomorrow. We have to keep working and getting better. Mentally, we're getting a lot better, there's no question. But I think we've just got to keep pushing through being a little bit tired. We've been banging heads for a while so we've got to be tough and work our way through it."

With three experienced halfbacks returning, the battle for the starting position between Josh Adams, Kevin Harris and Brandon Pendergrass has been very competitive.

"I thought our running backs looked good tonight," said Grobe. "Our first scrimmage, I wasn't real impressed with the running backs. I haven't been real impressed with them in practice. In the scrimmage yesterday, I thought we ran with a little bit more assertiveness. Tonight, I thought we had a good burst out of those guys. I think they're starting to get their legs back up under them and look like they're moving their feet better. That was encouraging."

While the team usually practices in plain black or white jerseys, the Deacon quarterbacks all wore new game jerseys in Friday night's practice.

"Every year we get new jerseys and even though the style is the same, sometimes they're a little looser or a little tighter than the jerseys from last year," said Grobe. "We just want to make sure that we have some guys at different positions actually come out and practice for a couple of hours in them and see how they feel. That way, if we need to do anything to them, we can."

Wake Forest will practice on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Doc Martin Complex before taking Sunday off.

All practice times are subject to change.
