Wake Forest Prepares to Host UNC-Wilmington

Wake Forest-UNC-Wilmington Game Notes
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's soccer team looks to open the 2009 season 3-0 on Wednesday night when it plays host to UNC-Wilmington. Kickoff at Spry Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Demon Deacons won their second straight game to start the season on Sunday, coming back to defeat UNC Greensboro 2-1. After UNCG scored early, Wake Forest equalized late in the first half on a goal from Jill Hutchinson. Kaley Fountain's second half goal proved to be the difference. The goal was her third of the season and second game-winning goal. Hutchinson also was involved on the goal by Fountain, adding an assist.
Wake Forest has dominated the stat sheet in each of the first two games of the season, out-shooting its opponents 50-8 thru two games. The 50 shots by Wake leads the Atlantic Coast Conference, while the Deacs are also tied for first with seven goals scored.
UNC-Wilmington will play its first game of the 2009 season on Wednesday night. The Seahawks fell 3-2 to Elon in their only exhibition match before the regular season.
The Seahawks return six starters and 18 letterwinners from the 2008 team that finished the year with a 12-7-1 overall record and an 8-3-0 mark in conference play. Kelly Dodd and Erin Pardini are the leading returners for UNCW. Dodd finished the 2008 season with 12 points, scoring five goals and adding two assists, while Pardini also had 12 points last season with four goals and four assists.
Sophomore goalkeeper Chandler Follett also returns for the Seahawks. Follett played in 14 games in 2008 and allowed 15 goals for a goals against average of 1.15. She finished her freshman season with an 8-4-0 record and five shutouts.
Wake Forest and UNC-Wilmington have met four times previously with the Demon Deacons winning all four games. The two teams last met on August 31, 2008, with Wake Forest claiming a 5-0 win.
Individual tickets for Wednesday's game are $6 each. Fans can also purchase a season pass for the 2009 soccer season, which allows admittance into all of the home regular season men's and women's soccer matches this season. Season passes are $45 for adults and $25 for youth (17 and under). Kids three years of age and under are admitted free for each home match.
