WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's soccer teams has its final tune-up before the 2009 season on Thursday when it travels to Furman for an 8 p.m. exhibition match.
"Our team is looking forward to playing Furman," head coach Jay Vidovich said. "We've grown quite a bit since the game against Liberty. Our guys are picking up on things and they've been preparing quite well."
The Deacs defeated Liberty 2-0 in the team's first exhibition match of the preseason on August 22. Freshman Andy Lubahn scored a goal and assist, while senior Zack Schilawski also added a goal.
Senior Akira Fitzgerald and freshman Michael Lisch combined for the shutout in goal. Fitzgerald played the first 61:48 of the game, while Lisch was in goal for the final 28:12.
Thursday's match will mark Furman's only exhibition match of the 2009 preseason. The Paladins return nine starters and 13 letterwinners from the 2008 team that finished the year with an 11-8-1 overall record.
