WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest is looking to keep its momentum rolling as the Demon Deacons host in-state rival and Football Championship Subdivision opponent Elon on Saturday at BB&T Field. The game is available on the Wake Forest ISP Radio Network, and it will also be broadcast online via ACC Select.
The Deacons are coming off a thrilling 24-17 defeat of Stanford last weekend in Winston-Salem. Wake Forest rallied back from a 14-point halftime deficit, posting 21 unanswered points and 311 total yards in the second half alone.
Elon, a member of the Southern Conference, comes to Winston-Salem with a 2-0 record after opening the season with sizable wins over Davidson and Presbyterian. The Phoenix, ranked No. 11 in the FC Top 25 Poll, picked up a 41-7 defeat of Presbyterian last Saturday in Clinton, S.C.
Saturday's game will be the 10th all-time meeting between Wake Forest and Elon, as the Deacons lead the series 8-0-1. The teams have not met on the gridiron since 1939 and have not met previously in Winston-Salem.
Wake Forest will induct five new members into its Sports Hall of Fame this weekend. See page 7 for more information on the new inductees.
Quickie Notes
- Wake Forest is facing its first FCS opponent since hosting Liberty during the 2006 season. The Deacons earned a win in that game, taking down the Flames 34-14 on Sept. 30.
- Wake Forest and Elon have a combined 77 players on their respective rosters from the state of North Carolina. The teams also have a combined 45 players from the state of Florida on their rosters.
Next Up...
Wake Forest will face its first road test of the season when the Deacons travel to Boston College for their ACC opener next Saturday. Kickoff in Chestnut Hill is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wake Forest will then return home the following two weekends to host NC State on Oct. 3 and Maryland on Oct. 10. The Maryland game will be Wake Forest's Homecoming Weekend.
