Opara Starts in 3-0 U.S. Loss to Germany

SUEZ, Egypt - Wake Forest junior defender Ike Opara started and played the entire 90 minutes as the United States U-20 Men's National Team opened play at the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup with a 3-0 loss to Germany on Saturday.
The junior defender earned his fifth cap in international soccer. The Durham, N.C., native played the entire 90 minutes in the loss for the United States.
Germany struck early with two first half goals. The first goal came in the 30th minute on a penalty kick, while the second goal occurred just two minutes later in the 32nd minute. The Germans grabbed a 3-0 lead in the 72nd minute.
The U.S. was out-shot in the game 12-4, including a 3-1 edge for Germany in shots on goal.
Group play continues for the U.S. on Tuesday, September 29 against Cameroon. Kickoff is set for 12:45 p.m. (ET) and the game will be televised on ESPN2.
