Chris Paul netted 28 points with nine assists on Saturday against Houston in the New Orleans Hornets' 99-95 victory. Last Wednesday, he had 18 points in another four-point win, this time against Miami. Paul again added nine assists along with four steals and five rebounds. On Monday night at Utah, Paul had 12 points and nine helpers with six boards in the 91-87 win. His 4.4 assists per turnover ratio currently ranks first in the NBA this season.
Last night, Paul was featured in ESPN's "Homecoming with Rick Reilly." Much of the feature was filmed in Wake Forest's Wait Chapel this fall with many former and current Demon Deacons in attendance.
For the San Antonio Spurs, Tim Duncan averaged 22.3 points and 9.7 boards in four games this week. On Sunday, Duncan had 21 points and 12 boards at Toronto for his 16th double-double of the season - which ranks ninth in the league. Earlier in the week, he combined for another double-double against Miami with 23 points and 10 rebounds. At Washington on Saturday, Duncan knocked down 23 points to go with seven rebounds and three assists.
Coming off the bench, Josh Howard reached double digits in points three times this week for the Dallas Mavericks. Last Thursday, he dropped in 16 points to go with five rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist at Houston. Two nights later, Howard scored 16 points and grabbed three rebounds in the Mavs' win at Sacramento. Last night, Howard contributed 12 points in the five-point win over the Pistons. Against the Lakers on Monday, he recorded seven points and four rebounds.
Darius Songaila also contributed off the bench for New Orleans this week. He eclipsed the double-figure mark twice in scoring this week. Last Wednesday, Songaila finished with 11 points in 14 minutes of action. He totaled 12 points with three rebounds on Saturday. Songaila also saw time against the Jazz when he added three rebounds and two points in the win for New Orleans.
James Johnson has consistently been seeing more action in his rookie season for the Chicago Bulls, averaging 12.1 minutes over his last seven games. In last Thursday's game at Detroit, Johnson was 2-of-3 from the floor for five points and grabbed three boards. He was cold from the floor the next two games, going 0-of-6, but recorded four rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block in those two games against the Magic and Thunder. Last night, he scored three points to go with a steal, rebound and assist in a loss to the Bobcats.
Rookie Jeff Teague played in two games this week for the Atlanta Hawks. On Friday against the Knicks, he had two rebounds and an assist in five minutes on the court. Teague also saw action on Monday in Miami.
