RS Freshman Josh Harris
- RS freshman Josh Harris ended the game with a career-high 241 yards. His previous career-high was 74 yards in the season opener against Presbyterian on Sept. 2.
- Harris is the first Wake Forest player to run for more than 200 yards since Micah Andrews accomplished the feat against Vanderbilt on Sept. 1, 2005. Andrews finished with 254.
- Harris scored his second TD of the game on an 87-yard scamper in the second quarter. The rush was tied for the third-longest in school history with John Mackovic who did so at Virginia on Sept. 19, 1964. It was also tied for the fourth-longest rush in the NCAA FBS this season and was the longest Wake Forest play from scrimmage this year.
- Harris' 87-yard run was the longest since Freddie Summers went 90 yards against Maryland in 1968.
- The 87-yard TD run by Harris is the longest given up by Virginia Tech since Wesley McFadden of Clemson had an 89-yard run in 1987, Frank Beamer's first game as head coach of the Hokies.
- Harris scored on a 33-yard TD run in the first quarter. The touchdown was the third of his career and the first since the opener against Presbyterian on Sept. 2.
- Harris had a 37-yard run in the first quarter to set up his 33-yard touchdown run.
- Harris is the first RS freshman to rush for at least 100 yards since RS junior Brandon Pendergrass ran for 110 yards against Miami in 2008.
- Harris' 241 yards are the most yards Virginia Tech has ever allowed on the ground by an individual. The previous high was 239 by Paul Palmer of Temple in 1986.
- The last player to gain 200 yards on the ground against Virginia Tech was Miami's Willis McGahee in 2002.
- Harris' 241 yards on the ground are tied for the fifth-most in the NCAA FBS this season. He is tied with Nebraska's Taylor Martinez.
- The 241 yards by Harris are the sixth-highest single-game total in Wake Forest history.
Price to Givens
- RS sophomore Chris Givens caught a 78-yard touchdown pass from freshman Tanner Price on Wake's first drive of the third quarter. The touchdown catch was Givens' second-longest TD reception of the year. He caught an 81-yard touchdown pass from RS senior Marshall Williams against Duke on Sept. 11.
- The 78-yard completion by Price is the longest of his career.
- The 78-yard pass from Price to Givens ties the seventh-longest pass in Wake Forest history.
With the loss
- Wake Forest is now 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the ACC.
- Head coach Jim Grobe is now 61-56 at Wake Forest. His overall career record is 94-89-1.
- Wake Forest has lost five straight games.
Miscellaneous Notes
- Virginia Tech won the toss and elected to defer. Wake Forest received the opening kick and defended the South goal.
- Wake Forest held Virginia Tech on 4th-and-1 in the first quarter. It marked the sixth fourth down stop of the season for the Deacs, and it was the second time all season that the Deacons have stopped an opponent on fourth down and less than two yards to go.
- The three points that Virginia Tech scored in the second half are the fewest allowed by Wake Forest all season and the fewest since they blanked Elon in the first half on Sept. 19, 2009.
- The 49 points scored by Virginia Tech ties the Wake Forest record for points allowed in a half. Clemson scored 49 points in the first half of an 82-24 victory in 1981.
- Sophomore Jimmy Newman had a season-high two touchbacks, including the opening kickoff of the second half.
- The 21 points the Wake Forest scored was the most in the last 14 meetings against Virginia Tech since the Deacons defeated VT 28-9 in 1970.
- Freshman Kevin Johnson and RS junior Cyhl Quarles both had a career-high nine tackles. RS junior Kyle Jarrett also had a career-high with eight tackles, while freshman A.J. Marshall made a career-high seven stops.
- RS junior Devon Brown has caught a pass in 19 consecutive games.
- Wake Forest is now 22-29 in away games under head coach Jim Grobe and is 13-25 in ACC road games under Grobe.
- Wake Forest was penalized a season-high eight times against Virginia Tech.
- The last time that Wake Forest gave up 600 yards of total offense was against Clemson in 2000. The Tigers amassed 623 yards on Sept. 16, 2000.
- Wake Forest's nine first downs are the fewest since a 24-21 loss at home to Boston College on Nov. 22, 2008.
