WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Wake Forest redshirt freshman running back Josh Harris today was named the ACC Rookie of the Week.

Harris is a 5-10, 205-pound redshirt freshman from Duncanville, Texas (Duncanville HS).

Harris, making his first career start, carried 20 times for 241 yards and two touchdowns in Wake Forest's 52-21 loss at Virginia Tech on Saturday. Harris' 241 yards rushing are the most ever allowed by Virginia Tech, surpassing the 239 by Temple's Paul Palmer in 1986.

Harris' effort on Saturday was noteworthy on a number of fronts. He became the first Deacon since 2005 to rush for over 200 yards in a game. His 241 yards were the second-most ever by a freshman at Wake Forest behind the 249-yard performance by James McDougald vs. Clemson in 1976.

Harris' 241 yards is tied for the fifth-best rushing effort in the Football Bowl Subdivision this year, along with Taylor Martinez of Nebraska who rushed for 241 yards against Kansas State on Oct. 7. Harris' effort was also the fifth-best rushing performance by a freshman in ACC history.

Against Virginia Tech, Harris scored on touchdown runs of 33 and 87 yards. The 87-yard run was the longest by a Deacon since Freddie Summers set the school record with a 90-yard run in 1968. Only four players in the FBS have had longer runs this season.

In addition, Harris' 12.1 yards per carry average was the second-highest by a Deacon running back while gaining over 200 yards in a game. Nub Smith averaged 13.7 yards per carry when he collected 246 yards on 18 carries against William & Mary in 1949.

Harris entered the game with 189 rushing yards on 43 carries in 2010.
