Fresh off its lone bye week of the 2010 season, Wake Forest heads north to take on ACC Atlantic Division rival Maryland on Saturday afternoon. The Demon Deacons and Terrapins are set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. at Byrd Stadium in College Park. The game will be televised on ESPNU and is also available on the Wake Forest ISP Sports Radio Network.
The Deacons are looking to snap their five-game losing streak after suffering a 52-21 loss at Virginia Tech last weekend in Blacksburg. The setback dropped Wake Forest to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the ACC.
Redshirt freshman running back Josh Harris was a bright spot in the loss two weeks ago. The Duncanville, Texas native was named the ACC Rookie of the Week after rushing 20 times for 241 yards and two touchdowns in his first career start.
Harris' 241 yards rushing were the most ever allowed by Virginia Tech, surpassing the 239 by Temple's Paul Palmer in 1986. Harris became the first Deacon since 2005 to rush for over 200 yards in a game.
Freshman quarterback Tanner Price and sophomore wide receiver Chris Givens hooked up on Wake Forest's only other score at Virginia Tech. Price hit Givens for a 78-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. It was the seventh-longest pass completion in school history.
Maryland comes in to this weekend's matchup at 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the ACC. The Terrapins are fresh off a 24-21 victory at Boston College last Saturday in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The win was the Terps' third in their past four games. Maryland is a perfect 3-0 at Byrd Stadium in 2010, including a win over ACC rival Duke last month.
Quickie Notes
- Wake Forest has won each of its last four games following bye weeks, dating back to the 2006 season. Last year, the Deacons posted a 45-34 win at Duke following their open weekend. - For his career, junior wide receiver Devon Brown is five catches shy of 100 and 22 receiving yards shy of 1,000.
