Wake Forest is now 4-4-1 on the season and a perfect 3-0-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Deacs are second in the league with nine points, three points behind conference leader North Carolina.
Sam Redmond and Kyle Emerson each had goal for the Deacons on the week. Redmond scored the game winner against Virginia Tech, scoring just 48 seconds into the match. The goal for Redmond was his first of the 2010 season. Emerson tallied the first points of his collegiate career with a goal in the second half against the Hokies. Emerson scored in the 83rd minute to extend Wake's lead to 2-0.
Tolani Ibikunle also made the scoresheet for the first time in his collegiate career against Virginia Tech, assisting on Redmond's game-winning goal.
Akira Fitzgerald recorded his second shutout of the season against the Hokies. Fitzgerald made three saves in the contest. He lowered his goals against average on the season to 1.08 and has now made 35 saves.
Bradlee Baladez scored the only goal for South Carolina in the Gamecocks' 1-0 win over Wake Forest on Tuesday. Baladez scored in the sixth minute after a failed clearance by the Demon Deacon defense. The Deacs held a 13-6 edge in shots in the match, including an 11-1 advantage in the second half, but were unable to score a goal.
