WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Wake Forest will step out of conference to face familiar rival Navy on Saturday evening at BB&T Field. The game is set to kickoff at 6:30 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN3.com. The game is also available on the Wake Forest ISP Sports Radio Network.
The Demon Deacons and Midshipmen are no strangers to one another, as the teams will be meeting for the fifth time in the past four seasons. Wake Forest and Navy have split the previous four meetings, making Saturday's tilt a rubber match for recent series supremacy.
On offense, Wake Forest is looking to find stability under center. Three quarterbacks played for the Deacons last Saturday against Georgia Tech, the first two of which left with injuries. Junior Skylar Jones came on and played well in his first extensive action of the season, rushing eight times for 31 yards and completing 9-of-20 passes for 105 yards. He led the Deacons on three of their four scoring drives on the day.
Josh Adams ran for 101-yards on 20 carries against Tech to become Wake's first 100-yard rusher since Kevin Harris piled up 136 rushing yards in the 2008 EagleBank Bowl.
Wake Forest's opponent in the EagleBank Bowl, Navy, is coming off 14-6 loss at service academy rival Air Force last Saturday in Colorado Springs. Despite the setback, the Midshipmen (2-2) have won two of their last three games. Navy will be playing its third-straight road game on Saturday in Winston-Salem.
Quickie Notes
- Redshirt senior linebacker Matt Woodlief has posted three of his best games against triple option teams. Woodlief had eight tackles against Georgia Tech last Saturday. He also had 12 stops vs. Navy last year and six against Georgia Tech in 2009.
- Saturday's game against Navy will be Wake Forest's fifth game against the Midshipmen since last playing conference-foe Virginia Tech. The Deacs last played the Hokies in 2006.
Next Up...
Wake Forest will head out on the road next Saturday to face the Hokies of Virginia Tech. The two teams have not played since Nov. 18, 2006, when Tech won 26-7 at BB&T Field. The Deacs will then have an off week before traveling to Maryland on Oct. 30. Wake has won three out of the last four meetings with the Terps.
