WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest will get its first look of the season at the Greensboro Coliseum, site of the 2011 ACC Tournament, when the Demon Deacons face the Elon Phoenix at the venue on Saturday. The game, which is set to tip-off at 8 p.m., will count as a true road game for the Deacons. The radio broadcast will be available on the Wake Forest Sports Network from IMG College.
The Demon Deacons (1-2) are coming off a 1-1 showing at the NIT Season Tip-Off East Regional earlier this week in Winston-Salem. Wake Forest defeated Hampton, 63-56, on Monday but was upset, 90-69, in the second round by VCU on Tuesday. The Deacons will now host a four-team consolation pod in the event next week.
Travis McKie, who has scored in double figures in each of his first three games, led the Deacs against Hampton with 21 points and eight rebounds. Ari Stewart led the way against VCU with 18 points and seven boards. Stewart has double-digit rebounds in two of the first three games.
Elon (1-1) heads to Greensboro sporting a 1-1 mark on the young season. After suffering a 94-79 loss at South Carolina on opening night, the Phoenix picked up their first win of the season on Monday with a 99-68 defeat of the College of New Jersey.
Wake Forest leads the all-time series with Elon, 36-6. The Deacons have won 24 straight in the series since the 1921-22 season, including a 90-50 win last year in Winston-Salem. The teams played at the Greensboro Coliseum in 2005-06 with the Deacons claiming a 78-59 victory.
McKie Starts Off Hot
Freshman Travis McKie has scored in double figures in each of his first three games to start his collegiate career. McKie had 10 vs. Stetson, 21 vs. Hampton and 18 vs. VCU. The Richmond, Va. native even had 24 points in the exhibition game vs. Guilford.
