
Basketball Game Notes - Wake Forest vs. Iowa

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest will host the Iowa Hawkeyes in the 12th annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Tuesday evening. Tip-off is schedule for 7 p.m. at the Lawrence Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem. The game will be televised by ESPNU and will also be available on the radio on the Wake Forest Sports Network from IMG College.
The Demon Deacons (3-3) are coming off a week-long layoff following an 81-59 defeat of Marist last Tuesday at home in the final game of the NIT Season Tip-Off. Wake is looking to put together consecutive wins for the first time this year after alternating wins and losses to start the season.
Freshman Travis McKie leads the Deacons with 14.8 points per game and has scored in double figures in every game this season. Senior Gary Clark is shooting an astonishing 76.5 percent (13-of-17) from 3-point range.
Iowa is also 3-3 on the year and is looking for its first two-game winning streak of the season as well. The Hawkeyes are coming off a 111-50 defeat of SIU-Edwardsville on Friday in Iowa City.
Iowa is coached by Fran McCaffery, who played one season at Wake Forest in 1977-78 before transferring to Penn. McCaffery averaged 4.5 points and 2.4 assists in 28 games for the Deacons.
Wake Forest has won each of its three previous meetings with Iowa, including a 56-47 victory in the 2007 Challenge in Iowa City. Tuesday will mark Iowa's first-ever trip to Winston-Salem and the Joel Coliseum. The teams also met in the second round of the 1993 NCAA Tournament.
Wake Forest in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge
Wake Forest is 8-2 all-time in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, including a perfect 5-0 mark at the Joel Coliseum. Last season, No. 4-ranked Purdue upended Wake Forest, 69-58, in West Lafayette, Ind. It was the Deacons' first Challenge loss since 2004-05, snapping a three-game win streak.

Wake Forest will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 4, when the Deacons host the Holy Cross Crusaders at 1 p.m. Wake Forest will then have a week off for final exams before taking on UNC Wilmington on Sunday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. in Greensboro. The UNCW game will be televised on MASN.
