WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest women's soccer players Bianca D'Agostino and Katie Stengel were recently selected to participate in national-level soccer camps.
D'Agostino will take part in the U.S. U-23 National Team camp in Carson, Calif., from Dec. 12-19. She is no stranger to the U-23 team as she traveled to England with the squad in 2009 and also camped twice with them earlier in the year. Stengel will travel to Bradenton, Fla. for a U.S. Youth Soccer U-19 inter-regional event held Dec. 17-20.
The U-23's will have seven days of training during the camp, in addition to games against the Ajax women's club and the Cal South ODP team. The U-19 event brings together the top 10 players from each of the four USYS regions. From that pool, coaches will select a USYS all-star team that will travel to Germany, Belgium and Holland next summer to compete against local club teams as well as attend 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup matches.
D'Agostino, a senior midfielder from Longmeadow, Mass., served as co-captain of the Demon Deacons in 2010. She finished the year with two goals and five assists for a total of nine points, including a goal and an assist in the ACC Tournament to help lead Wake Forest to its first ACC Championship. D'Agostino played in 91 games in her four-year career, totaling seven goals, 14 assists and 28 points.
Stengel had a magnificent freshman season for the Demon Deacons in 2010, taking home TopDrawerSoccer National Rookie of the Year and ACC Freshman of the Year honors. The forward from Melbourne, Fla. set new Wake Forest single-season scoring records with 16 goals and 37 points en route to becoming the highest-scoring rookie in the nation, which also leave her in position to become the first freshman since 1999 to finish the season as the ACC leader in both scoring categories.
