Sam Cronin Called Up to U.S. National Team Camp

CHICAGO - Former Wake Forest men's soccer player Sam Cronin was among the 24 players selected by head coach Bob Bradley for the U.S. National Team training camp that will begin on Jan. 4 at U.S Soccer's National Training Center at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

The camp will culminate with a friendly against Chile on Jan. 22, also at the Home Depot Center.

Cronin, who plays for the San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS, has earned two previous caps, both coming in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup, where he started a group stage match against Haiti and entered the championship match against Mexico as a late substitute.

Cronin started every game during his collegiate career at Wake Forest and set a new school record for games played and games started with 98. The Winston-Salem native scored 10 goals and four assists during his senior season and earned first team All-American honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, College Soccer News and Soccer America. Cronin was also a finalist for the 2008 M.A.C. Hermann Trophy and won the 2008 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. Cronin closed his collegiate career with 17 goals, 19 assists and 53 points.

He was drafted with the second overall pick in the 2009 MLS SuperDraft by Toronto FC, and made 33 appearances with the club before being traded to the Earthquakes in June.
