Garcia Named ACC Rookie of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Wake Forest freshman center Sandra Garcia was named ACC Rookie of the Week for the second time this season following her performance against Virginia on Sunday.

Garcia was the game's leading scorer in Wake Forest's 64-57 upset over No. 20 Virginia (21 points). The newcomer recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 11 rebounds and helped her Demon Deacons take a win over the Cavaliers for just the third time in program history. Garcia also added two steals and one block in the team's lone game of the week.

The Hollywood, Fla., native collects the Rookie of the Week honor for the second time this season as she picked up the league's first weekly accolade of the 2009-10 season (Nov. 16). Among ACC freshmen this season, Garcia currently ranks fourth in scoring (9.2 ppg) and second in rebounding (7.4 rpg).
