FINAL: Wake Forest 75, No. 20 Georgia Tech 64

Team Records and Series Notes:

  • Wake Forest improves to 18-5 and 8-3 in Atlantic Coast Conference play, while Georgia Tech drops to 17-8 and 5-6 in league play.
  • The Demon Deacons now lead the overall series 36-32, including a 16-5 advantage at the Joel Coliseum.
  • Wake Forest improves to 12-1 at home on the season and 41-4 at the Joel Coliseum under head coach Dino Gaudio.
  • The Demon Deacons return to action on Tuesday, traveling to Blacksburg, Va., to face the Virginia Tech Hokies. Start time at Cassell Coliseum is scheduled for 7 p.m. (ET) and the game will be available on ESPN2 (television) and the Wake Forest ISP Radio Network.

Wake Forest Team Notes:

  • Key Run: Trailing 62-60, Wake Forest closed the game on a 15-2 run. The Demon Deacons held the Yellow Jackets to just two points over the final 8:52 and without a field goal during the stretch. Wake stopped Georgia Tech on 14 of the Jackets' final 15 possessions of the game.
  • Key Stat: After getting out-rebounded 43-34 in the first meeting between the two teams, Wake Forest controlled the paint, owning a 40-37 edge on the glass and winning the points in the paint category 38-18.
  • The Demon Deacons shot 43.9 percent (29-of-66) from the field in the game, while Georgia Tech shot 34.5 percent (19-of-55) from the floor.
  • Wake Forest assisted on 16 baskets and committed 12 turnovers in the victory.
  • Wake Forest has now made a three-point basket in 574 consecutive games.

Wake Forest Individual Notes:

  • Ishmael Smith broke the 1,000-point plateau in the game, scoring 10 points. For his career, the senior point guard now has 1,006 points. He also handed out eight assists. Smith (567 career assists) joins Skip Brown as the only Deacons with 1,000 points and 500 assists.
  • Al-Farouq Aminu scored a game-high 19 points and recorded 10 rebounds, notching his 15th double-double of the season and 25th of his career. Aminu also surpassed 500 career rebounds, becoming just the fourth player in program history to pull down 500 rebounds by his sophomore year. Aminu is the 35th member of Wake Forest's 500 Rebound Club, joining teammate Chas McFarland who also reached the milestone earlier this season. Aminu also recorded a season-high four steals - one short of his career high of five.
  • L.D. Williams scored eight points including a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line. Williams also dished out four assists and had three rebounds.
  • Tony Woods recorded his second double-digit scoring game of the season, scoring 10 points. Woods also grabbed two rebounds and blocked one shot.
