WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest University and the Atlantic Coast Conference today announced the ACC football schedule for the 2010 season. The Deacons have six home games scheduled, starting with a Thursday night opening game on Sept. 2.
The Deacons will play seven teams that went to bowl games following the 2009 season including four bowl champions.
Wake Forest will open the campaign at home against Presbyterian on Thursday, Sept. 2 before hosting Duke in the first ACC contest of the year on Sept. 11.
The Demon Deacons will also play home games against defending ACC Champion Georgia Tech on Oct. 2, Navy on Oct. 9, Boston College on Nov. 6 and Clemson on Nov. 20.
Wake Forest will play road non-conference games at Stanford on Sept. 18 and at Vanderbilt on Nov. 27. In the ACC, the Deacons will visit Florida State on Sept. 25, Virginia Tech on Oct. 16, Maryland on Oct. 30 and NC State on Nov. 13.
Wake Forest has an open date on Oct. 23.
"The schedule for 2010 is every bit as challenging as last year," said Wake Forest head coach Jim Grobe. "We have several great teams coming to BB&T field and all of the teams we play on the road will be tough. I'm excited about our team and know that we'll have to play at an extremely high level each week to be successful."
Wake Forest's home game with Navy will mark the fifth time that the two teams have met over a four-year period. This will be the final game of the four-game home and home series. The Deacons and Midshipmen also met in the 2008 EagleBank Bowl.
The Stanford game will be the return game from the Cardinal's visit to BB&T Field in 2009. Wake Forest won that game 24-17.
Wake Forest will close the season at Vanderbilt. This will be the third game in an eight-game series that has the Deacons and Commodores ending the regular season with each other. Wake Forest won season-ending games at Vanderbilt in 2007 and at BB&T Field in 2008. The series continues through the 2015 season.
Wake Forest's visit to Virginia Tech's Lane Stadium on Oct. 16 will mark the Deacons' first trip to Blacksburg since 1983 and the first time the two have played at Virginia Tech as ACC members. Georgia Tech's visit to BB&T Field on Oct. 2 will mark the first time the Yellow Jackets have been to Winston-Salem since the 2003 season.
Game times have not yet been determined and will be released at a later date.
