WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest has announced the addition of Dan Ficke to the men's basketball staff. Ficke will serve as the program's Assistant Coordinator of Operations.
In his role, Ficke will be responsible for assisting with team travel, meals and other logistics within the basketball office. He will also manage the day-to-day operation of the recruiting databases and coordinate the recruiting mail-outs to prospective student-athletes and coaches.
"We're excited to have Dan join our staff," said Demon Deacon head coach Jeff Bzdelik. "He is a young guy with a wealth of basketball knowledge and experience. He played Division I basketball as a scholarship student-athlete at Loyola, and he has great basketball bloodlines. Dan has obviously been around the game all of his life and will be a great addition to our program."
A native of Englewood, Colo. Ficke comes to Winston-Salem after finishing his master's degree at Loyola University Maryland this spring.
Ficke played four seasons at Loyola, helping the Greyhounds win a combined 64 games from 2005-09. The 6-6 forward was a member of the 2007-08 Loyola squad that won a school-record 19 games.
Ficke earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Loyola in 2009. He then went on to earn his MBA, with a concentration in management, from Loyola in 2010.
Ficke served as the head JV coach and assistant varsity coach at the Boys Latin School of Maryland in Baltimore during the 2009-10 season.
Ficke played on the prep level at Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colo., earning second team all-state and honorable mention All-America honors as a senior.
Ficke is the son of former NBA assistant coach and scout Bill Ficke. Bill spent a combined four seasons with the Denver Nuggets, Utah Jazz and New Jersey Nets, coaching alongside Larry Brown and Doug Moe. Bill also played under legendary coach Al McGuire at Belmont Abbey.
Dan Ficke serves as the president of the JoAnn B. Ficke Cancer Foundation, which was created to aid in the fight against cancer and honor Dan's late mother who passed away from the disease three years ago.
Mike Lepore, who served as the team's Assistant Coordinator of Operations last season, has moved to the role of Team Videographer for the upcoming 2010-11 campaign.
