Sandra Garcia Playing For Puerto Rico In Centrobasket Championship

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Wake Forest's rising-sophomore Sandra Garcia will be playing for Puerto Rico in the upcoming Centrobasket Championship for Women. The tournament begins on Saturday, July 10, and will be played at Palacio de los Deportes in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico.
The eight teams participating -- Jamaica, Mexico, Dominican Republic, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, St. Vincent & Grenadines and Trinidad & Tobago - were divided into two groups of four and each team will play the other three teams in its group. After group play, the top-2 teams from each group will play in the semifinals on Tuesday, July 13, with the championship game being held on Wednesday, July 14.
Garcia had a good freshman season for the Demon Deacons as she played in 31 of the 32 games and made 29 starts. She was second on the team with 221 rebounds and averaged 9.6 points per game. She also recorded a total of seven double-doubles which was the fifth-highest total in the ACC. The Hollywood, Fla., native was named to the ACC All-Freshman team.
