Wake Forest Opens Exhibition Slate against Georgia State

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - After four days of preseason training, the Wake Forest men's soccer team gets its first test of the 2010 season on Saturday at 7 p.m. as the Deacs host Georgia State in an exhibition match at Spry Stadium.
Admission to Saturday night's match is free of charge.
The match against the Panthers is one of two exhibition contests for Wake Forest before the start of the 2010 regular season. The Demon Deacons will travel to Furman for an exhibition on Friday, August 27.
Wake Forest brings back six starters and 14 letterwinners from the 2009 team that finished the year with a 17-4-3 record and advanced to the College Cup for the fourth straight season. Saturday's game will serve as the collegiate debut for the 11 freshmen on the Demon Deacon roster.
Sophomore forward Andy Lubahn is the leading returning scorer for Wake Forest with 10 goals scored in 2009, which tied a Wake Forest record for goals by a rookie. Senior goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald has started 48 straight games in goal for the Deacs and enters his senior campaign first in school history in goals against average.
Georgia State returns nine starters and 13 letterwinners from a team that finished 2009 with a 4-11-1 record. Sophomore midfielder/forward Gimel Gordon is the leading returning scorer for the Panthers with three goals and two assists in 2009.
