WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -
The Demon Deacons donned full pads for the workout, which was held under cloudy skies and in relatively mild conditions.
"We had a good practice this morning," said Wake Forest head coach Jim Grobe. "It's funny it seems like when it's really cool we have more trouble at the start getting going. You'd think when it's hot everybody would come out and melt, but it really kind of warms everybody up quicker. I thought we started a little sluggish this morning, but we came on toward the end."
With classes at the University slated to begin on Wednesday, the Demon Deacons will transition out of preseason mode and into preparation for the season opener against Presbyterian.
"Camp's over. The team is excited," said senior center Russell Nenon. "I think overall, offensively and defensively, we've played pretty well. I think we're not quite ready for game one but we're pretty close. I know that both sides of the ball are ready to hit another color than black and gold. Overall, camp went really well. We're just excited the season is here.
"Hopefully things slow down a little bit [with the start of classes]. We've started to mentally prepare for Presbyterian, so you can kind of shift your focus from game planning against our defense to Presbyterian's defense. We'll just start focusing week by week on our opponent and get ready for the game."
The Deacons are scheduled to practice at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday at the Doc Martin Practice Complex.
Wake Forest will hold its third and final preseason scrimmage on Thursday at BB&T Field. The scrimmage is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. and is open to the public. Fans planning to attend the scrimmage should park in the Gold or Red Lots and use Gate 3 to enter the stadium.
