WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's soccer team continued to receive preseason recognition on Wednesday as the Deacs were picked seventh in the Soccer America preseason poll.
The ranking marks the third time this preseason that Wake Forest has been placed in the top 10 of a national poll. The Demon Deacons were ranked third in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America preseason poll and fifth in the College Soccer News poll.
The Atlantic Coast Conference had six teams in the poll, with all six being ranked in the top 10. North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland were ranked second, third and fourth, respectively. Duke was ranked eighth, while Boston College was ninth.
Wake Forest's second opponent of the 2010 regular season, Akron, earned its third No. 1 ranking of the preseason.
The Demon Deacons opened the 2010 season with a 3-1 victory against Georgia State in an exhibition match last Saturday. Freshmen Luca Gimenez and Jared Watts, along with sophomore Andy Lubahn, each scored a goal in the victory. Freshman Chris Duvall added a pair of assists.
Wake Forest closes the exhibition schedule on Friday against Furman. First touch against the Paladins is slated for 7 p.m. (ET).
