WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest completed its second practice of the preseason on Friday night at the Doc Martin Football Practice Complex. The practice was the second for the Demon Deacons in jerseys, shorts and helmets.

Head coach Jim Grobe remained enthused about the team following Friday night's practice.

"We were kind of good and bad tonight," said Grobe. "We had some drills that went really, really well. We added some more stuff today so there some more guys hyperventilating over calls. A lot of the young guys were pressing a little bit, trying to figure out what was going on. Our energy was still good. I continue to be impressed."

Grobe also liked some of the things he saw in Friday's practice from the different position groups.

"Our quarterbacks are much further along than we were in the spring," said Grobe. "I like our linebacker group right now, I think they're doing some really good things. We were a little bit inconsistent throwing and catching the football but that's to be expected right now. I feel like we're about where we should be. For about five or six days, we're going to be a really sore and tired football team. And then we'll start getting in real good shape and once we get used to running around and running into each other, we'll start looking a little bit better. But right now, we were a little bit sloppy today. There were more balls on the ground tonight than yesterday. I would have expected more yesterday but we added more plays today and that's what causes that. We just had way too many mistakes. We'd have been in trouble if we played today. Thank goodness we've got 27 more practices."

The Deacons will meet with the media on Saturday morning at BB&T Field and also pose for the annual team picture. The squad will practice on campus at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Saturday's practice will mark the first practice with the team in shoulder pads.

The Deacons open the season at home against Presbyterian on Thursday, Sept. 2.
